ADVERTISE EX PLUCKY LASS
OWEN BURROWS
2023 Bay Filly by Advertise ex Plucky Lass - Owen Burrows
This has turned out to be the strongest sales season for many years at Tattersalls. We have had to be especially disciplined to keep up our standards and, as always, only try to buy yearlings we really loved and that passed our strict criteria. As such having drawn a blank at this year’s Book 1 sale, it took us until the final day of Book 2 before we finally struck; buying this smashing filly. Crucially, she is eligible for the ‘Great British will win an extra £16,000 in Bonus’, a scheme for British Bred fillies only and which would mean she gross prizemoney should she win a maiden/novice race. The filly is by the extremely fast young stallion Advertise, a triple Group 1 winner including the Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) at Royal Ascot. Whilst his oldest progeny are still only three, he has had a great year in 2024 siring three individual Group race winners including Andrew Balding’s Gimcrack winner Cool Hoof Luke.
The dam, Plucky Lass, is by the wonderful broodmare sire Medaglio D’Oro who has the rare distinction of producing over 100 stakes winners as a sire and as a broodmare sire. Her first and only foal to hit the track to date, Gutsy Girl, is a very exciting young sprinter with Charlie Fellowes and has the potential to achieve ‘black type’ next season which may add some residual value to this filly in due course.
Luke Lillingston commented: “Her family includes three Royal Ascot winners and is from one of England’s most celebrated breeders Anthony Oppenheimer and his Hascombe and Valiant Stud. We should also reflect that this filly has been raised on the same wonderful land that gave us Derby winner Golden Horn and Arc winner Cracksman.”
