Founded in 1988, Kennet Valley Syndicates are one of the founders of shared racehorse ownership in the UK, with a rich heritage spanning over 3 decades.

Our enduring success is a testament not only to our expertise in selecting quality yearlings at an affordable level, but also to the fun and welcoming community enjoyed by our members.

SAM HOSKINS
RACING MANAGER

Sam co-manages the day-to-day operations of Kennet Valley, liaising with trainers and communicating with syndicate owners. He is also the co-founder (with Luke Lillingston) of Hot To Trot Racing and is a small breeder in his own right.

PIERS WINKWORTH
RACING MANAGER

Piers, son of former trainer and owner/breeder Peter, regularly hosts at the races and on trainer visits. Unfortunately he is also the one that sends you the bills! He lives in Surrey with wife Nina and two racing mad boys.

BLOODSTOCK ADVISOR

Luke is a leading international bloodstock agent and responsible for our yearling purchases. He’s helped many clients achieve considerable success at the highest level around the world.

CLARE LAWES
RACING ASSISTANT

Clare is involved in the administrative side of Kennet Valley, along with organising our events programme and hosting at the races. She is a keen horsewoman and racing fan with lots of hands-on experience in the racing/bloodstock industry!

ALICE WHITTINGTON
ASSISTANT RACING & MARKETING MANAGER

Alice works alongside Sam and Clare in coordinating the day-to day operations, whilst also running all of the marketing for Kennet Valley. She has spent her entire life immersed in horses and racing, having grown up in Lambourn and is a keen amateur photographer. Alice was an integral part of her husband, Harry Whittington's successful National Hunt yard, where together they enjoyed success at the highest level.

ANDREW BALDING
KINGSCLERE, BERKSHIRE

Andrew Balding is a prominent British trainer based at Kingsclere, near Newbury. He took over the reins at the historic Park House Stables from his father, Ian Balding, in 2003. Since then, Andrew has established himself as one of the leading trainers in the UK. Notable horses trained by Andrew include the multiple Group 1 winner Kameko - who captured the 2000 Guineas in 2020, and Alcohol Free - a multiple Group 1-winning filly. Balding consistently ranks among the top trainers in the UK, 2023 saw Andrew win his third Classic when Chaldean landed the 2,000 Guineas, and nearly £4.5 million in UK prize money resulted in a 3rd finish in the Trainers Championship.

OWEN BURROWS
LAMBOURN, BERKSHIRE

Owen Burrows is a highly respected trainer, known for his success in both Group and Listed races. Based at Farncombe Down Stables in Lambourn, Owen learnt his skills under the tutelage of David Nicholson and then Sir Michael Stoute before taking out a license in 2016 for the Shadwell operation. He has quickly made a name for himself, training high-calibre horses like Hukum, Alflaila and Minzaal. In recent seasons, Burrows has maintained a strike rate of around 20%, placing him among the elite trainers in the UK. His stable is known for its depth, with several promising young horses adding to his tally.

WILLIAM KNIGHT
NEWMARKET, SUFFOLK

William Knight is a well-regarded British racehorse trainer. Since taking out his licence in 2006 he was originally based in West Sussex before moving in 2020 to Newmarket’s state of the art Rathmoy Stables. William’s most notable successes include training Kennet Valley’s Sir Busker, a consistent performer in major handicaps and Group races, including a victory in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot in 2020.

CLIVE COX
LAMBOURN, BERKSHIRE

Clive Cox is a highly successful trainer, known for his ability to nurture top-class sprinters and milers. Clive began his training career in the late 1990s and quickly established himself as a leading figure in the sport. His training achievements include a string of Group 1 victories with standout horses such as Lethal Force, Harry Angel and Golden Horde. Clive consistently ranks among the UK’s top trainers.

ED WALKER
LAMBOURN, BERKSHIRE

Based at Kingsdown Stables in Upper Lambourn, Ed Walker is a prominent trainer who took out a licence in 2010 after working as an assistant to both Luca Cumani and Roger Charlton. Since then, he has rapidly risen through the ranks to become one of the leading trainers in the UK. Ed’s standout achievements include training Starman & Dreamloper. He has trained over 400 winners and has had a Stakes winner every year since taking out his licence.

CHARLIE HILLS
LAMBOURN, BERKSHIRE

Charlie joined our roster in 2014 having taken over the license from legendary father Barry. Based at Faringdon Place Stables in Lambourn, Charlie comes from a distinguished racing family. Less than 2 years after taking the helm at Faringdon Place, Charlie trained his first classic winner when Just The Judge won the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She was swiftly followed by European Champion 2 year old filly and Breeders Cup winner Chriselliam. In recent years more top-class horses have emerged including 2 European Champion sprinters in the shape of Muhaarar and Battaash, plus Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain.

VENETIA WILLIAMS
KINGS CAPLE, HEREFORDSHIRE

Venetia Williams is a renowned National Hunt trainer, based at Aramstone Stables in Herefordshire. She has been one of the leading figures in jump racing since taking out her training license in 1995. Venetia’s most famous achievement came in 2009 when she trained Mon Mome to a stunning victory in the Grand National, making her only the second female trainer ever to win the prestigious race. Beyond this historic win, she has trained numerous high-profile winners, including Teeton Mill and Cloudy Glen. Her ability to train horses for some of the most grueling races in the National Hunt calendar has earned her a reputation as one of the most skilled and respected trainers in the sport.
