COTAI GLORY EX SWIFT CAMPAIGN

WILLIAM KNIGHT

2023 Chestnut Colt by Cotai Glory ex Swift Campaign - William Knight

We bought the Cotai Glory colt at the Tattersalls Book 2 Sale in Newmarket.  He was the third last lot of the 773 on offer and we felt he represented good value when the hammer came down.

Cotai Glory was a very tough and sound sprinter on the racecourse. He won the Molecomb (Group 3) as a two-year-old before his saddle famously slipped in the Flying Childers (Group 2) when he was on course for victory. He trained on well and aside from further Group 3/Listed race wins, he was also second to Profitable in a King’s Stand (Group 1) and third to Marsha in a Nunthorpe (Group 1). He has made a great start to his stud career from relatively humble beginnings. The Platinum Queen, who won the Prix De L’Abbaye (Group 1) as a two-year-old, hailed from his second crop whilst this year’s Mill Reef (Group 2) winner Powerful Glory promises to be competitive at Group 1 level in due course too.

The dam, Swift Campaign, was a winner and Listed-placed herself for John Gosden. She has made a good start at stud with three winners from four runners with all of the winners scoring as two-year-olds and securing decent ratings at the same time. Her grandam, Tycoon’s Dolce, scored at Listed level in France whilst her great grandam, Tycoon’s Drama, scored at Graded level in the US.

Luke Lillingston commented: “Patience and perseverance were finally rewarded just before they turned the lights out at Tattersalls on Wednesday night. Sam and I have been keen to buy a Cotai Glory for some time as the stallion is definitely overachieving. This colt looks like his father with a quality head, lengthy body and very quick sprinters action. He was produced by Tally Ho Stud where his father stands. They sell literally hundreds of winners every year and this boy looks a very likely winner for KV next year.”
