Conscript was purchased for €75,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, a sale that has been a happy hunting ground for Kennet Valley, producing stars such as Sir Busker, Flashcard, and Fast Society. He is in training with Clive Cox, who was particularly taken with him at the sale, having expertly handled our high-class two-year-old Dragon Leader last year.
By Soldier’s Call, an exciting young sire who has already produced a Group 3 winner in Dawn Charger, Conscript comes from a strong sprinting pedigree. Soldier’s Call was a top-class two-year-old himself, winning the Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed) at Royal Ascot before adding the Group 2 Flying Childers to his resume—a race also won by notable sires Sir Prancealot (sire of Sir Busker) and Zebedee (sire of Magical Memory).
His dam, Dundel’s Spirit, is by Invincible Spirit (also the broodmare sire of Equality) and has already produced the tough and fast Listed winner Isaan Queen. She is a half-sister to two high-class juveniles and stakes winners: Charlotte O’Fraise, winner of the Group 3 Prix de Calvados, and Luck Money, who won the Goffs Million after placing in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes. This exceptional pedigree also includes the outstanding sire Dubawi.
Conscript made a promising debut when finishing third at Haydock last June. Since then, he has encountered some frustrating hold-ups, but the additional time given to him may well prove a blessing in disguise. With his natural ability and pedigree, he looks the type to target valuable three-year-old handicaps this summer, and we’re excited to see what he can achieve.
