An important day at Newbury celebrating our Founder Nick Robinson
Yesterday we paid tribute to our founder, Nick Robinson, by naming a race at Newbury in his honor.
Nick Robinson was a renowned figure in horse racing, known for his significant contributions to the sport. Following a successful career in publishing as the publisher of the racing industry’s Pacemaker magazine, now known as The Owner Breeder. In 1988, he established Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds with the aim of winning the inaugural running of the Cartier Million, a prestigious sales race in Ireland that was the richest contest in Europe at the time.
The syndicate finished 2nd and 3rd in the first running with horses Miss Demure and French Pretender. Over the years, the famous Kennet Valley silks have been carried by top performers including Gateman, Drumfire, Charles the Great, Firebreak, Tullius, and more recently, Magical Memory and Sir Busker.
Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds is now in its 36th year, and today we remember Nick Robinson for all he did for racing. As a pioneer of racehorse syndication in this country, he left a lasting impact on the sport.
