OUR TRAINERS

ANDREW BALDING
KINGSCLERE, BERKSHIRE

Andrew Balding has trained from the historic Park House Stables in Kingsclere since taking over the licence from his father, Ian, in 2003 and is firmly established as one of Britain’s leading trainers. His yard has earned over £4 million in prize money each season since 2021, with major successes including Classic winners Kameko and Chaldean and multiple Group 1 victories with Alcohol Free. Kennet Valley has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with the Balding family, highlighted by Group horses such as Charles the Great, Firebreak Flashcard and Tullius. Andrew currently trains Comic Hero and our new two-year-old by Invincible Army, and owners are always warmly received when visiting the beautiful Park House Stables.

OWEN BURROWS
LAMBOURN, BERKSHIRE

Owen Burrows has quickly established himself among Britain’s leading trainers since taking out his licence in 2016, having previously honed his skills under David Nicholson and Sir Michael Stoute. He has trained high-class performers including Hukum, Alflaila, Anmaat and Minzaal and consistently maintains a strong strike rate. Kennet Valley has enjoyed early success with Owen since he joined our trainer roster in recent years, most notably through the outstanding Calendar Girl. She earned just shy of £300,000 in her first season last year as a two-year-old, including victories in the Weatherbys Scientific Two-Year-Old Trophy and the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes. He also formerly trained Fair Wind, a four-time winner who earned just under £100,000 in prize money before retiring. Owners are always made welcome when visiting his base at Farncombe Down Stables, just outside Lambourn.

WILLIAM KNIGHT
NEWMARKET, SUFFOLK

William Knight has been one of Kennet Valley’s most successful trainers and an integral part of our team for many years. Now based at Rathmoy Stables in Newmarket, he has enjoyed some of his strongest seasons since relocating there in 2020. He is best known to Kennet Valley as the trainer of our much-loved flag bearer Sir Busker, a Group 2 winner and Group 1 performer who was retired last season. William also guided Dual Identity through a successful career, earning just under £150,000. He now trains our three-year-old Raise The Stakes and a new two-year-old by Persian Force. His Newmarket base offers superb facilities and memorable owner experiences, including access to the Jockey Club Rooms for dinner ahead of stable visits.

ED WALKER
LAMBOURN, BERKSHIRE

Ed Walker is based at the beautiful Kingsdown Stables in Upper Lambourn and has become a highly regarded figure within British racing. In recent seasons he has built a reputation as one of the country’s most progressive and capable trainers, consistently producing high-quality performers from his West Berkshire base. Kennet Valley has enjoyed success with Ed through star filly Mollie Foster, and he now trains the progressive two-year-old Golden Brown in our familiar silks. He has made a bright start to his career and, although narrowly denied in recent runs, has shown plenty of ability and looks more than capable of shedding his maiden tag before long.

CLIVE COX
LAMBOURN, BERKSHIRE

Clive Cox is a highly accomplished trainer, renowned for his ability to develop top-class sprinters and milers. He began his training career in the late 1990s and has since established himself as a consistent force at the highest level, with multiple Group 1 victories achieved by horses such as Lethal Force, Harry Angel and Golden Horde. Kennet Valley has enjoyed notable success with Clive, most prominently through Dragon Leader, who enjoyed an outstanding two-year-old season in 2023 with victories at York and Redcar, earning over £300,000 in prize money. Based at Beechdown Stables in Lambourn, Clive’s professional and proven operation offers an excellent environment for both horses and owners alike.

CHARLIE HILLS
LAMBOURN, BERKSHIRE

Charlie Hills joined the Kennet Valley trainer roster in 2014, having taken over the licence from his father Barry, and is based at Faringdon Place Stables in Lambourn. From one of racing’s most distinguished families, he has firmly established himself among Britain’s leading trainers. Classic success came early when Just The Judge won the Irish 1,000 Guineas, followed by European Champion two-year-old filly and Breeders’ Cup winner Chriselliam. In recent years he has continued to produce top-class performers including champion sprinters Muhaarar and Battaash, along with Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain.

HARRY CHARLTON
BECKHAMPTON, WILTSHIRE

Harry Charlton is based at the historic Beckhampton Stables in Wiltshire, one of the most celebrated training yards in British racing. The yard has a remarkable heritage, having been home to legendary trainers including Sir Noel Murless and, more recently, Roger Charlton, under whom it enjoyed decades of success at the highest level. Harry took over the licence in his own right in 2024 after working closely alongside his father for many years and is continuing the proud Beckhampton tradition with a modern, forward-thinking approach. New to the Kennet Valley trainer roster this year, he represents an exciting addition, combining world-class facilities, deep-rooted racing history and a strong focus on developing high-quality performers.

EVE JOHNSON HOUGHTON
BLEWBURY, OXFORSDHIRE

Eve Johnson Houghton has trained with distinction from Woodway Stables on the Oxfordshire Downs above Blewbury since 2007, continuing a proud family tradition that spans three generations. Racing is deeply rooted in the Johnson Houghton family, with Woodway long established as one of Britain’s most respected training establishments. Eve has enjoyed notable success at the highest level, including Royal Ascot victories with Accidental Agent and the talented two-year-old Chipotle, while recent seasons have brought further top-class results including Group 1 success for Zavateri at the Curragh. Returning to the Kennet Valley trainer roster this year, she brings a wealth of experience and a proven record of producing high-quality performers.
